NAKHLA DOG COLLECTION Nininger Star
The hotel owner, however, did not agree with this decision and Nininger was forced to cancel the project, suffering the cost of both time and material. From time to time after that Nininger would hand these out to good friends or customers. These stars are extremely rare, historic and famous. From longtime friend of Harvey Nininger, Steve Schoner: Details on this Metallic Spheroid Star They were hand made by Nininger and less than a hundred, I hear were made. These were made in a promotional deal with Fred Harvey Hotel chain here in Arizona during the late 1940's, and early 1950's. From what I understand the deal with Fred Harvey fell through. These stars were then distributed or given to Nininger's friends and family. They came in two sizes. 3" and 4.5" point to point. They are coated with thousands of Canyon Diablo metallic spheroids that have been bonded to an aluminum backing cut in the shape of a STAR. Nininger then sanded them down to reveal the metallic nature of these interesting and seldom offered spheroids. These spheroids are very rare as they were painstakingly collected as Nininger related in his notes. I tried Nininger's method and after a full day of collecting sand, I found only a few of them. And I was told by Nininger that they could fetch hundreds of dollars, perhaps a thousand per oz if one could even get an ounce of them. Steve Schoner |
