Classification and mineralogy (T. Bunch and J. Wittke, NAU): a heavily shocked (S4-6) breccia of 72 vol % cumulate eucrite clasts, 8% subophitic clasts, 14% diogenites and 6% melt clasts. Pervasive solid-state recrystallization of plagioclase and pyroxenes; localized melt pockets and veins in clasts. Cumulate pyroxene, Fs45-40Wo7-20; plagioclase, An91.2-95.3; melted metal droplets, 0.97 wt % Ni and 0.87 % Cr. Diogenite pyroxene, Fs43-54 Wo2.5-3.6. Fresh crust and minor interior staining.

Just the standard/required classification. Detailed work will follow, sometime.

Recent issues have come into play regarding pairing and this meteorite definitely applies. Initial samples were classified and given the NWA 1929 number by the Nomenclature Committee. Subsequent material has since been found, some has been sent for official pairing, has been officially paired, and awaits a new NWA number, some has not. On this page I am selling the latter two cases and I will note their status.

African Desert finds are the only meteorites this applies to. For every Gao on the market there has been no such pairing rule saying that a scientist must pair it. Dealers simply get material from their suppliers, look it over, and offer it for sale. This new rule, in my opinion, it a bandaid fix that ultimately bogs down meteorite labs preventing true scientific work that needs to be done. I am complying with this rule with all new material that comes in, but three pieces on this page have not been officially paired.
