Northwest Africa 1465
CV3-An
Found 2001
Morocco

This is one of only three Anomalous CV3 meteorites ever found, one of which is Antarctic. Many fragments weighing 3 Kg were found in 2001 with a 7.5 Kg mass found soon after. Original classification was completed at Humboldt University in Germany with further pairing studies perfomed at NAU prior to the new Nomenclature Guidelines. As such, this material carries the name NWA 1465 and the Met Bulletin will one day be ammended to reflect the new TKW.

In addition to dark inclusions, an enigma of the CV clan, this particular meteorite displays Plastic Deformation of it's chondrules evident by oblong chondrules oriented in the same direction. Little is known of this phenomenon though it is supposed that some impact took place while the chondrules were in an unsolidified (a.k.a.) plastic state. As one would expect, CAI's are present, but in small quantity.

The pieces below are all that I have and are mostly pieces that fell off the 7.5 kg mass while cutting. Most of them are fragments that were heavily weathered on the exterior that I cut in half and therefore they resemble little endcuts. This was one weathered meteorite but the interior remained largely intact.

NWA 1465, NWA 3118, and NWA 2651 have proved to be three heavy hitters in further understanding the CV parent body.
