The Bruce Dod Meteorite Collection

KEY:
PN = Painted numbers
DC = Dod Card
OC = Other card
NC = No card

**   = The specimens are clearly numbered within the guidlines of his system, easy to interpret, but the card data does not match. Always in the down direction, one would suspect the cards were minted and then not adjusted for trades or sales. So, for example, the card may say 20 grams of fragments when what is peresent is 10 of that.

Listings in red denote larger masses of poorly distributed meteorites.

Bruce D. Dod, born in 1941, New York, emerged as a luminary in the realm of meteoritics through a lifelong dedication to understanding these extraterrestrial remnants. After moving to Plainview, Texas in the 70's, Dod's early encounters with the vast expanse of the night sky fueled his curiosity about the cosmos. This fascination propelled him to pursue studies in geology and astronomy, laying the foundation for his future contributions to the field as a professor of Earth Sciences and Astonomy At Wayland Baptist University

Dod's scientific journey unfolded against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving understanding of meteorites. His meticulous research and analysis significantly advanced our comprehension of these celestial artifacts, particularly in their composition, origins, and trajectories. By scrutinizing meteorites with rigorous methodology, Dod unearthed invaluable insights into the processes governing the formation and evolution of our solar system.

Among Dod's notable achievements is his pioneering work on iron meteorites, relics of the solar system's earliest epochs. Through detailed examination, Dod decoded the complex histories encoded within these metallic specimens, revealing pivotal information about the conditions prevailing during the nascent stages of planetary formation. His findings have not only enriched our understanding of meteoritics but also provided critical data for refining models of solar system dynamics.

In tandem with his scientific endeavors, Dod was an ardent advocate for education and outreach in meteoritics. His efforts to engage students, colleagues, and the public have kindled a greater appreciation for the marvels of space science. Through mentorship and public lectures, Dod has inspired countless individuals to explore the frontiers of astronomy, geology, and planetary science, ensuring a lasting legacy of scientific inquiry.

Today, Bruce D. Dod's contributions continue to resonate within the meteoritical community and beyond. His pioneering research and commitment to scientific inquiry serve as a beacon for future generations of researchers, illuminating pathways to deeper understanding of the universe. Dod's legacy underscores the profound connections between terrestrial and extraterrestrial realms, inviting exploration and discovery at the intersection of science and cosmic history.
